KUWAIT: The cabinet reportedly approved all the recently proposed amendments to the public sector law during its weekly meeting on Monday. A government insider also revealed that all the cabinet members attending the meeting had expressed their willingness to work together to resolve the issue of Kuwaitis laid off from private sector jobs, even by passing new legislation if necessary.

The cabinet members have emphasized that they will be present at today's emergency parliamentary session being held to discuss the issue, despite previous doubts over their attendance.

They have remained resolute, however, in their conviction that the amended public labor law needs to be studied over more than one parliamentary session before being passed.

The government official said that the solutions which the cabinet has devised to this problem will serve to resolve it better than any of the recommendations, amendments or proposals put forward by MPs during today's session, while emphasizing that the cabinet is still willing to review all such proposals and cooperate fully on resolving the issue.

Also on Monday, MPs received their official invitations to attend today's emergency session, while the Parliamentary Committee for Finance and Economic Affairs finalized its report on the issue of the laid-off Kuwaiti workers, reported Al-Qabas.

In the report, the committee recommended that in order to benefit from the fund introduced to help those laid off, any applicants should have worked for their employers for at least three years.
